Beautiful and perfect delft pitcher. Early 19th century. Delftware or Delft pottery, also known as Delft Blue[, is blue and white pottery made in and around Delft in the Netherlands starting in the 16th century. During the Dutch Golden Age, the Dutch East India Company had a lively trade with the East and imported millions of pieces of Chinese porcelain. Native Dutch scenes with windmills and fishing boats, hunting scenes, landscapes and seascapes my dutch friend tells me this is the history of holland laid out in pictues. What a beautiful way to transmit history and this is a classic example of this. This piece has no chips or cracks but does have that gorgeous crackling in the glaze that we love so much.
